Department of Radiation Techniques
1- Vision:
The basic concept beyond founding Department of Radiation is to build an educational system within a technical, applied, and practical framework, taking into account the scientific progress in the world.
It depends on a certified quality system and the overall development of performance based on the needs of the governmental sector and the private sector so that to improve the department to attain the level of the scientific specialized international institutions.
2- Message:
It looks forward to convey the radiation specialty in technical education to the highest level through keeping up with the rapid developments internationally and globally as well as the development of curriculum.
Therefore, the graduates should acquire the skills and expertise to meet the needs of the state in both public and private sectors on the foundation of the quality that is targeted by the Technical Education.
3- Objective
The department aims to graduate technical cadres are able to work in the field of radiation techniques in relation to: film developing, operating, and maintaining the related apparatus and equipments.
4- Characterization of graduate work:
1- The graduate shall receive patients, provide guidance to them, prepare them, and arrange the appropriate posture of the patient in order to obtain clear radial pictures at the lowest possible side effect.
2- Adjusting radiographic devices, operation and capture the rays needed for the various organs of the dealt with body and provide all of the perfect radiographic films full with all the information to the radiologist to write the final report.
3- Preparation and use of chemicals and medicines used in radiography
4- Do films developing to all pictured films.
5- Do maintenance of devices and equipment used
6- Do the regulatory process for radiation centers such as organizing records and equipment.
History of the department:
1- Founded:
The Department of Technical Radiation was established with the date of the founding of the Higher Institute of Health Professions in 1972, and then in September 1, 1988 the Higher Institute of Health Professions had been moved from Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Higher Education -Technical Institute / Mosul.
In 2011, it was the opening of the center Technology for Medical Imaging to train students, which provides services to all students and personnels of institute.
2- Technical Centre for Medical Imaging:
It was established in 2011; it is a technical sophisticated center containing modern features of the latest X-ray equipment, medical imaging, X-Ray laboratories, classrooms set forth to complete the requirements of technical education theoretical and practical training for the students to make utilities from the development in radial equipments.
The center offers its services to all student and personnels of the institute, who their number reaches about 6000 people.
3- The following apparatus are found in the Technical Centre for Medical Imaging:
A- X-Ray apparatus Shimadzu Japanese -made 30 mA.
B- X-Ray apparatus Chinese origin 100 mA
C- X -Ray apparatus Korean origin 525 mA
D- X-ray apparatus (mammography) 100 mA.
E- Automatic processing film developing device
F- U.S. digital processing device manufacturing – Kodak Company
The center also contains:
1- Sonar device: total number (2)
2- Doppler device: total number 1
The Technical Centre for Medical Imaging is licensed by the Ministry of Environment / Center for radiation protection / Environment Directorate of Nineveh, according to her No. 3934 of 5/8/2011, and all workers in the Technical Centre for Medical Imaging Films carrying measuring the level of radiation.
4- The goal of the section:
Section aims to qualify technical medical cadres to work in the field of radial photography.
5- Graduate work areas:
Radiographic photographer has to work in hospitals and health centers under the supervision of the diagnostic radiologist.
6- Duties of radiography photographer:
a- Receive patients and provide guidance to them pertaining to his job in radiation field and appropriately deals with the ways to get the best radiographic images with a lowest side effect.
b- Radial tuning devices, operation and capture rays needed for various parts of the body.
